Island Tiki Grill - Not So Secret Any More - Good Value. I will bet many of you who live in Central Brevard do not know about this little gem of a restaurant. It is nestled upstairs on the second floor of the Island Lincoln Mercury Showroom, 1850 E. Merritt Island Causeway on Merritt Island. It is one block east of the Merritt Island Mall. The restaurant has reserved parking at the back of the building. Take the elevator to the second floor. The restaurant opens to the public, Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 2:30 pm. There is no need to make a reservation. Enjoy the air-conditioned dining area while sitting at patio-style tables under patio umbrellas. With the big expanse of windows to gaze out of and a palm tree mural gracing the opposite wall, you will feel that you are dining al fresco.
Island Tiki Grill is open for breakfast although I have never enjoyed breakfast here. I‘ll have to remedy that soon. On their menu is English Muffins, Toast, Bagels, Waffles, Egg & Cheese Sandwich, Breakfast Platter, Jumbo Breakfast Wrap, bacon, sausage and sliced ham along with a selection of beverages. You cannot beat the complimentary coffee; just help yourself - served in Island Club Carbucks.
I, however, come for Val’s delicious lunch choices, especially his Polish Specialties: Polish Sampler Platter ($10.50,) Pierogie Platter ($7.50,) Cabbage Rolls ($7.50,) Hunter Stew ($7.50,) Mixed Pierogie Platter ($7.50,) Mixed Kielbasa Platter ($7.50) and Potato Pancakes, $7.50. I have dined here many times and always bring my friends or relatives with me. I usually choose the Polish Sampler because it is a little bit of everything. It is really a dinner portion and includes Stuffed Cabbage, Pierogies, Hunter Stew (Bigos,) Kielbasa plus more. (See my photo below.) I love the Potato Salad and the Shredded Beets. I rarely finish my meal. Now that Potato Pancakes is on the menu, I have a real dilemma. Therefore, I always take that To Go- problem solved about what to order. The three potato pancakes are quite hearty- very crispy on the outside, yet soft inside - just perfectly cooked. Val even tells me how to re-heat it. In the oven, he admonishes me.
If I am less hungry, I will order the Ruben Sandwich. There are so many other Deli Sandwich choices - Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, Pastrami, Philly Cheese Steak, Meatball Sub, Tuna, Egg Salad BLT, and Grilled Cheese - even PB&J for the kids or big kid in you. Deli Sandwiches come with Potato Salad, Pasta Salad or Chips. There is also a nice selection of Garden, Chef or Caesar Salads; you can add a scoop of Chicken or Tuna Salad for only $2 more. For desserts, there are plenty of choices such as Candy Bars, Packaged Cookies, Biscotti and Ice Cream. I like the Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich or the Snicker Bar Ice Cream.
Val is the head chef. He was the former owner of a Titusville restaurant before coming to the Island Tiki Grill. I have known Val for several years and he is always anxious to accommodate diners. For example, he will substitute something on a platter and always with a smile. Call or fax in your order, 321-454-9464. Val will also cater your next party,
On this particular visit, Karen was our server. She brought us all cups of water & even left pitchers on our tables. She checked back to see if the food was satisfactory. Karen was professional, polite, friendly and accommodating. She gave us great service throughout the meal, refilling our soft drinks as needed. Val even had a few minutes to come out of the kitchen to chat with us after he finished preparing our meals. We told him to expect us back soon. Now you, too, know about this gem of a restaurant. You do not need to be Polish to dine here.
